Thing 3
A blog would be very useful and beneficial in my future classroom. I could post calenders that had assignments that are due each day and that also listed what would be covered in class each day. This would allow parents to prepare their students and also help them to feel included. I could also post projects that the students did in class so that their parents could see their child's creativity. Creating a blog would be very useful for parent/teacher communication. It would allow parents to post and respond to other parents as well as the teacher. It would also allow the teacher to see what all of the parents have to say to each other and how they feel about certain things. Another useful thing to put in the classroom blog would be practice homework problems such a writing prompts, vocabulary activities and math problems. If a child is struggling in any of these areas, it gives the parent the opportunity to help their child from the comfort of their home.

Kayla,
ReplyDeleteWhat a helpful post, full of great classroom ideas that you can integrate with a group blog! I had similar ideas about how to utilize a blog for my future teaching purposes, such as parent involvement about assignments. However, I really liked the idea you presented about posting relevant practice material for the parents to access. By doing this, you provide the tools for the parent to expand on what their child has just learned while doing their homework. Trouble shooting tutorials might be a great tool to add to these pratice problems, as some children may be accessing this material alone. Great post, Thanks!
I love your idea about for using it for parent communication. It's almost like a virtual chat room but people don't have to be online. It's also a good idea to keep parents informed through blogs that way they can stay updated.
ReplyDeleteKayla,
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of putting extra practice and tips on your blog! I think that too often parents are not sure how to help their children understand classroom concepts when they get home. It's almost like the time I asked my mother to help me with multiplication in third grade. She had to ask my teacher for extra ways to practice. By posting on a blog you can give all the parents extra options of practice at home, and then maybe the students will have greater support in their learning and grasp the concept better.
